On a stormy Saturday morning Berkhamsted Bowls Club ladies advanced to the County semi-final of the National Top Ten competition with 3 wins and draw against a Welwyn & District ladies team.  Winners were Alice Biggs in Singles, Mary Millar & Lesley Brown in Pairs, and Triples team of Jackie Cormack, Mary Clarke & Judy Kenyon.  Marcia Pearce, Anne Furlong, Carole Dunn and Edie Coxhill drew in the Fours.

The mens team beat Kitcheners on Thursday evening in the Watford & District Griffin Cup 40-28 with top rink of Colin Cormack, , Kevin Clarke, Derek Cox and David Brown.

Friendly matches didn’t fare so well with losses against both Hatfield on Sunday 83-94 with top rink going to David Brown, Dave Lovett, Pauline Medland & Maurice Primo, and against BP on Thursday evening 55 shots to the visitors 63.

On Sunday, Marion & Ken Maynard and Ann & Frank Cutting beat a Harpenden mixed four by 22 shots to 14 to go into the next round of the St. Albans & District Stockman-Winser competition.  This completed a good week for the Maynards with a National Mixed Pairs win and a success for Ken in the Watford & District Singles.

Jackie Cormack beat fellow player Edie Coxhill in the County Singles on Tuesday and goes on to play another Berkhamsted player Marcia Pearce, who won her match against Jean Rutland.

Thursday was Ladies County Pairs day with wins for Mary Garner & Mary Clarke, Jackie Cormack & Anne Furlong, Carole Dunn & Edie Coxhill and  Jane Low & Beryl Parsons.

Another round won by Terry Kenyon, Bill Sharpling and John Webb in the St Albans & District Triples and Kenyon & Webb were also the victors in a Watford & District pairs match against a Harperbury duo.  David Brown & Kevin Clarke had a close match at Bushey to eventually win County Pairs match 21-19.
