On Friday four Berkhamsted pairings progressed to the Out of Zone section of the Ladies National Pairs competition.  Mary Cave & Judy Kenyon beat fellow club members Mary Clarke and Mary Garner. The other successful pairs were Edie Coxhill and Carole Dunne, Beryl Parsons and Anne Cutting, and Anne Furlong with Jackie Cormack.  At 18 – 3 Jackie Cormack appeared to be coasting to victory when she played another Berkhamsted player Marcia Pearce in the County Singles on Thursday evening.  However Marcia kept her on the green well into the evening before Jackie picked up the last 3 shots needed to clinch the match 21-15.

On Thursday evening Berkhamsted Men’s teams lost by just 1 point in both the Griffin Cup played at home against Potten End and the Jones Cup with teams home and away against Borehamwood.  Top rink Colin Cormack, Derek Cox, Kevin Clarke and David Brown just couldn’t squeeze the extra points needed to offset the other rink’s loss in the Griffin and the away team score at Borehamwood skipped by Alan Medland with Eric Millar, David Lovett and Frank Cutting, wasn’t quite enough to balance the home team loss in Jones Cup.

Jackie & Colin Cormack and Lesley & David Brown have reached the quarter-final of the St Albans & District Stockman-Winser competition after beating a quartet from Harperbury 26 -16.

A wet morning at Royston saw the end of Berkhamsted ladies’ hopes in the National Top Club competition when they lost the semi-final.to the last year’s winners Royston Ladies.  The Triples team of Judy Kenyon, Mary Clarke and Jackie Kenyon were the only winning rink for Berko.

Berkhamsted enjoyed 2 successful afternoons at the weekend in their friendly matches.  The home match on Saturday afternoon was an emphatic win of 111-57 against Borehamwood with top rink skipped by Bill Sharpling with Pat Ringwood and Len Scott.  On Sunday Berkhamsted travelled to Hazells in Aylesbury and managed almost as good a tally of 98-53 with top rink skipped by Alice Biggs with John Lythgoe and Albert Adams.
