Ken Maynard has won through to the St. Albans and District mens singles final at Potters Bar on Saturday 2nd September, by beating Joe Darling in the semi-final 21 shots to 12.

Other notable successes this week were Jackie Cormack and Anne Furlong winning through to the Ladies Watford and District pairs semi-finals with a 31 - 17 win against a duo from Tring B.C. and Berkhamsted Ladies league team of Carole Dunn, Marion Maynard, Judy Kenyon and Jackie Cormack winning at Abbots Langley.  A friendly rink of Mary Cave, Anne Furlong, Janet Jackson and Mary Millar also won well at Abbots Langley.

During the week we played host to the Zippers Bowling Association, a team made up of ladies and men from all over the country who have had open heart surgery.  The match was to help them raise funds, which they donate to cardiac units and wards throughout the country as their way of thanks for the treatment they have received.  We are proud to say that despite losing the match by 7 shots, we were able to raise £482.50 for them.  Our top rink was Frank Furlong, Peter Grant, Mary Cave and Lesley Brown.

We finished the week with two losses - a 6 rink triples match against Herts Club 87 -105 despite the efforts of top rink Lyle Scott-Darling, Mike Burton and Marcia Pearce.

This was followed by a 72 -77 loss to Hazells Bowls Club with Maureen Cox, Mike Low and Alice Biggs taking top rink.
