On Saturday the club held its annual Captains Day event.  Traditionally on Captains Day the men play against the Ladies for the "Captains Plate" but more importantly, its the day when the club passes to the Hospice of St. Francis the proceeds of fund raising activities over the past 12 months. This year, Captains Doreen Webb and Alan Parsons handed over a cheque for £710.00 to the Hospice and in addition also raised £66.00 from a "spider" for the British Heart Foundation.  The hard fought match ended in a victory for mens Captain Alan Parsons team, who beat the Ladies, captained by Doreen Webb by 154 shots to 107. This was despite the sterling efforts of Doreen's top rink of Carole Dunn, Pauline Medland, Beryl Parsons and Edie Coxhill.  Alan's top rink, was Dave Sear, Brian Smith, David Lovett and Derek Cox.

During the week, five rinks of triples beat Chess Vale bowls club in a mixed friendly by 105 shots to 72, top rink going to Jean Greenfield, John Shotton and Jackie Cormack.

Colin Cormack rounded off the week with a 21 shot to 15 win against Geoff Gough of North Watford B. C. in the 4th round of the Watford and District singles.  He now faces Ron Spicer of Garston in the quarter-final of the competition.
