Press Report - 31st July 2005
Berkhamsted Ladies continue to do well with Alice Sexton, Mary Cave and Mary Clarke moving into the quarter finals of the Watford and District triples competition with a 18 shot to 14 win against a strong team from Croxley Guild.
In the Jubilee Cup, Berkhamsted Ladies reached the semi-final when the two rinks of Mary Cave, Mary Clarke and Jackie Cormack, and Carole Dunn, Anne Furlong and Edie Coxhill both won to achieve an aggregate score of 45 shots to 21 against Cassiobury Ladies.
In mixed friendlies this week the club defeated BP Oil on Thursday by 82 shots to 54 with Mary Walsh, Peter Batchelor and Bill Sharpling getting top rink.
On Saturday, Chesham Broadway reversed our fortunes by beating our three mixed rinks by 77 shots to 49 despite Marion Maynard, Doris Mills, Frank Cutting and Colin Cormack notching up an 8 shot "Hot Shot".
Four mixed rinks on Sunday enabled the club to end the week the way it was started, with a resounding 122 shot to 48 win against Dunstable. With all rinks winning well, the candidates for top rink were many, but in the end the rink of Carole Dunn, Frank Dellamuro, Bill Sharpling and Anne Furlong just came out on top.
I forgot to mention last week, when I reported on our Captains Day, that in keeping with our tradition, all monies raised on Captains Day are in support of the Hospice of St. Francis.
This year we again donated a cheque for £500 bringing the total raised by the Berkhamsted Bowls Club over the past 17 years to over £10,500.00.
