Press Report - 17th July 2005
Berkhamsted Ladies had a very good week, starting with our Watford and District Jubilee Cup teams of Mary Clarke, Jackie Cormack, Mary Cave and Carole Dunn, Anne Furlong and Edie Coxhill. These two triples teams beat the Ladies of Borehamwood with an aggregate score of 42 shots to 31.
Mary Clarke beat Pam Bigley at Oxhey 21-17 in the Watford and District singles and one of our District 2 wood triples teams of Alice Sexton, Mary Lamb and Marcia Pearce won 21 - 6.
The highlight of the week though was on Friday, when our Ladies Captain, Anne Furlong, played host to County President, Janet Sellek and six rinks of ladies from the Herts County Women's Bowling Association. The match was played in a friendly but competitive spirit on a beautiful sunny day. It was obvious to anyone watching that all the ladies enjoyed the day. The HCWBA Ladies won the overall match by 12 shots, with Berkhamsted's top rink going to Mary Garner, Lesley Brown and Jackie Cormack. The day was rounded off with a lovely tea from Anne Cox and her team of helpers.
At the weekend two mixed friendly matches both resulted in wins for the club:
On Saturday we visited Rivets where we won by 79 shots to 40 with Christine Burton, Murray Parkins and Peter Moore taking top rink.
On Sunday we hosted five triples teams from Chalfont St. Giles, with Berko winning 104 shots to 83. Top rink went to Alan Osborn, Jeff Cawley and Janice Murgatroyd.
