Berko men reached the Watford and District Griffin Cup final after a thriller against Oxhey Bowls Club.  The two rinks of men emerged winners in the Griffin Cup semi-final against Oxhey on Saturday.  After 21 ends the match was all square and all players had to return to their rinks to play an extra end. with Berko holding a one shot advantage and only one shot to come, Oxhey skip, Eric Bigley, played a terrific running bowl to ditch the jack and return the match to all square.  This sent the match into another extra end and this time Berko teams of Frank Cutting, Ken Maynard, Derek Cox and skip Wally Dunn, together with Eric Lamb, David Brown, Terry Kenyon and skip Tony Perry came out on top.

Wins were also enjoyed by John Webb and Terry Kenyon who reached the St Albans and District semi-final of the mens pairs with a very good win at Townsend. This was matched by Eric Lamb and Tony Perry who reached the semi-final of the Watford and District pairs.

Terry Kenyon also reached the semi final stages of the St Albans Officers singles with a good win at Clarence Park.

Jane Low, Beryl Parsons and Jackie Cormack won 20 - 19 in the Watford & District 2 wood triples whilst Edie Coxhill, Anne Cutting, Jackie Cormack and Anne Furlong won a league match against Croxley Guild by just 2 shots. A friendly rink of Marion Maynard, Pauline Medland, Mary Miller and Mary Clarke also won 27 - 16.

Highlight of the week though was when Berkhamsted Bowls Club once again presented a cheque for over five hundred pounds to the Hospice of St. Francis which was collected with raffles, spiders etc. at our Captains Day on Sunday.  Captains Anne Furlong and Tony Perry organised a very good fun day match which resulted in the Men narrowly beating the Ladies by just 9 shots.  This year's fundraising  brought the 15 year total raised for the Hospice to around ten thousand pounds!

Mixed results in this weeks friendlies:  A loss by 7 shots to Chess Vale despite the efforts of top rink Marion Maynard, Eric Challis, Alan Dann and Alice Sexton.  A win by 9 shots against Chalfont St Giles with Colin Jones, Frank Furlong and Alice Sexton winning top rink.
