Press Report - 17th May 2004
The Club's fine start to the season continued with Marion and Ken Maynard winning their National Mixed Pairs 1st round match against a pairs from Herts club 22-15. Eric Lamb and Tony Perry ran out winners against a pair from Barnet Bowls Club by 21-15 in the Over 55's pairs, whilst John Webb and Terry Kenyon had a 23-8 win in the St. Albans and District pairs competition. Tony also won his 1st round Watford and District singles match 21-15.
However the run of wins was halted when the Club lost a mixed friendly fixture against Croxley Guild on Saturday by 83 shots to 114. The top Berko rink was George Cannon, Sandra Fenwick, Janice Murgatroyd, and Eric Lamb, winning by 28 shots to 1
On Sunday it was service as usual with a 69-59 mixed friendly win against Pavilion with Peter Grant, Jackie Cormack, and skip Anne Furlong gaining top rink.
Pride of place, though, must go to the Berko men who secured a 4 matches to 0 win over Much Hadham in the County Team 10 competition. This competition involves the playing of a singles, pairs, triples, and fours match simultaneously - Berko won all 4 matches with Derek Cox winning the singles, Eric Lamb and Tony Perry the pairs, John Webb, Wally Dunn, and Terry Kenyon the triples, and Frank Cutting, Malcolm Wood, Colin Cormack, and skip David Brown securing the fours.
