Berkhamsted Ladies got off to a rocky start in their latest County League match and soon found themselves 11 shots to 3 down at home to Croxley Guild. It required some high quality bowling by the Berko Girls to turn the game around and maintain their winning run. They eventually won by 28 shots to 16, this in spite of Marion Maynard having a nasty fall on the rink and having to be substituted. The team was Carole Dunn; Jackie Cormack (substitute); Mary Millar and skip Doreen Webb. The friendly rink of Edie Brittain; Janet Jackson; Beryl Parsons and skip Edie Coxhill narrowly lost by 17 shots to 18.

There has been further success in County Competitions - Tony Perry has progressed to the 5th round of the singles at the unfortunate expense of a fellow Berko colleague. Eric Lamb and Tony Perry have reached the 5th round of the pairs with a fine 35 - 17 victory over a Watford pair. Alan Parsons; Wally Dunn and skip Bill Sharpling were pushed all the way to an extra end but showed great determination and eventually ran out 21 - 17 winners to reach the 4th round of the County triples.

In the Watford & District, David Brown had a fine 21 - 16 win in the singles at Harperbury to reach the third round. The Ladies pair of Mary Lamb and skip Mary Clarke proved far to good, and overran an Oxhey pair by 30 shots to 7. Janet Saunders and Anne Cutting had to dig deep when they found themselves 21 shots all after their allotted 18 ends against a Hemel pair. The Berko duo scored 2 shots on the 19th end and progress to the next round.

Alan Dann and skip Alan Osborn progress to the 4th round of the St. Albans & District pairs thanks to a well earned 20 shot to 18 win at Harperbury.

On Saturday Berko visited Potters Bar and came away 63 - 56 victors in a four rink triples encounter. Top rink was Marion Maynard; Alan Parsons and skip Marcia Pearce who won by 19 shots to 9.

Chess Vale visited the Canal Fields Green on Sunday and found the Berkhamsted Club a little too accommodating in a four rink match. The visitors narrowly won by 66 shots to 64. Top rink was Colin Jones; Judy Love; Anne Cutting and skip Derek Cox who won by 24 - 18.
