In spite of heavy rain and the cold weather, Berkhamsted have achieved some notable results this week. In the County fours, Carole Dunn; Mary Clarke; Doreen Webb and skip Anne Furlong won through to the second round in a nail biting finish. After building up a handy lead the Berko quartet could see their lead gradually disappear and went into the last end all square at 20 shots each. Their nerve held and they eventually won by a one shot margin. Alan Parsons; Bill Sharpling and skip Wally Dunn won their first round County Triples encounter by 18 shots to 11.

The National Pairs competition provided happy hunting for Ken and Marion Maynard who won their first round match by 21 shots to 18 against a pair from Watford B.C. Ken then continued his winning ways with a positive result at Croxley in the Watford & District singles. Colin Cormack also got the better of his opponent in the W&D singles with a score of 21:19 at Owls. Perhaps the best result was by Don Turner and skip John Lythgoe who won their first round St Albans & District pairs match by 21:13 against very strong opposition from Welwyn.
