Marion and Ken Maynard have progressed to the 3rd round of
the National Mixed Pairs in a nail- biting finish on an extra end against a
pair from Herts.
Berkhamsted Ladies acquitted themselves with distinction
at the County Ladies 2 Wood Day held at four venues around the County with
over 70 competitors taking part. Jackie Cormack played extremely well at
Batchwood, only to lose to last years overall winner in that final. At
Harperbury, club mates Carole Dunn and Anne Furlong met in the semi-final with
Anne emerging the winner. She then defeated a lady from de Havilland's in that
final by 17 shots to 7. All 4 area winners will now battle it out at the
County Semi-finals in July.
Colin Cormack has progressed to the 4th round of the County
Singles with a score of 21 - 16 over opposition from Croxley. Tony Perry has
also progressed to the 4th round with a 21 shot to 6 victory. One of these two
players will bite the dust in the 5th round since they are due to play each
other.
Lesley Brown and Mary Clarke won their 1st round of the
County Pairs by 19 shots to 14 against a couple from Herts. Beryl Parsons and
Janice Murgatroyd also progress to the 2nd round thanks to a 18 - 14 win over
a team from Abbots Langley.
Mary Millar; Janet Jackson and skip Mary Cave played
exceedingly well to reach the quarter-final of the County Triples but narrowly
lost by 21-18 to a trio from Northaw & Cuffley.
Further success has been maintained in the Ladies County
League. This time at the expense of Kitcheners, with Mary Millar; Anne
Cutting; Doreen Webb and skip Mary Clarke winning 23-14.
Watford and District continues to provide happy hunting,
with David Brown eventually winning his second round singles match by 21 - 19.
This was a very close match with the lead changing hands may times. Ken
Maynard also progressed to the next round with a fine 21-10 win at Herts.
The men's pair of Ken Maynard and Frank Cutting won their second round match
against Radlett opposition, while the triple of David Brown; Colin Cormack
and skip Tony Perry won their second round match by 21 shots to 10.
Lesley Ward-Hersee; Mary Walsh and skip Beryl Parsons
recorded a 18-14 win in the district triples. Not to be outdone, Mary Millar;
Janice Murgatroyd and skip Lesley Brown also won their district triples by 4
shots.
There was a very tense finish to the 1st round of the
Griffin Cup at Bushey. With Berko needing 3 shots to win on the last end and
holding 4, it was the Bushey skip that spoilt the party by drawing in for shot
with his last wood to give Bushey the match by 38 shots to 35.
In the St Albans & District triples the rink of Alan
Parsons; Terry Kenyon and Skip Bill Sharpling won by 16 shots to 13. The four
of Eric Lamb; David Brown; Colin Cormack and skip Tony Perry had a very tough
encounter at Harpenden eventually winning by 21 - 20 and being behind for
virtually all the game. In the Stockman Winser mixed 4's, there was a 19-16
victory for Jackie Cormack; Lesley Brown; David Brown and Colin Cormack at
Harpenden. This was Jackie's 3rd full match on the same day, having narrowly
lost the County Pairs and winning the her County Singles earlier - they breed
them tough at Berko!!!
