On Friday the Berkhamsted Ladies played the final of the Watford & District League Cup at North Watford, only to lose to their old rivals - Bushey. The team of Carole Dunn; Anne Furlong; Doreen Webb and skip Mary Clarke held their own for two thirds of the match only to fall away during the last few ends, eventually going down by 11 shots.

On Saturday morning the team of Eric lamb; David Brown; Colin Cormack and skip Tony Perry played their St. Albans & District 4's final at Townsend. Their opponents, who were from Townsend, made good initial use of home green advantage and soon built up a 9 shot advantage. The Berkhamsted quartet gradually reduced the deficit but ran out of ends and eventually lost by three shots. In the afternoon, Berkhamsted were represented for the first time in the final of the Stockman-Winser Trophy. The team of Lesley and David Brown together with Jackie and Colin Cormack were involved in a thrilling encounter the result of which was in doubt until the last wood. The Berko team went into the last end one up but in spite of their best efforts they were unable to prevent their opponents taking the two shots they needed to secure the narrowest of victories.

Berkhamsted also held their own Club Finals last weekend with some quality bowling and much banter on both days. The results were as follows:-

Men's singles winner - Derek Cox, runner up Terry Kenyon. Ladies Singles winner - Doreen Webb, runner up Janice Murgatroyd. Men's 2 wood winner - Colin Cormack, runner up Kevin Clarke. Ladies 2 wood winner - Doreen Webb, runner up Beryl Parsons. Veterans singles winner - Eric Lamb, runner up Derek Cox. Handicap Single winner - Derek Cox, runner up David Brown. Men's pairs winners - Eric Lamb and Tony Perry, runners up Alan Medland and Frank Cutting. Ladies pairs winners - Jackie Cormack and Anne Furlong, runners up Janet Jackson and Mary Cave. Mixed pairs winners - Jackie and Colin Cormack, runners up Lesley Ward-Hersee and David Sear. Mixed triples winners - Jack Hazzard; Marion Maynard and skip Eric Lamb, runners up Malcolm wood; Anne Cutting and skip Mary Clark. Mixed fours winners - Lesley Ward-Hersee; Janet Saunders; Peter Batchelor and skip Tony Perry, runners up Carole Dunn; Ernest Goldsmith; Bill Sharpling and skip Jackie Cormack. The most eagerly awaited final was the Novices which involved the husband and wife encounter between Christine and Mike Burton. The only consolation for whoever lost this encounter was that they would sleep with the winner. As is the norm in these situations at the Berko Club there was much banter throughout this match, but it was Mike who eventually emerged the victor in spite of the best efforts of the spectators to put him off.

For the first time The Clubs Pedlow Trophy final was played on the finals weekend and it was Derek Sandford and Eric Varndell who narrowly beat David Davies and Ken Maynard to take the title
