Press Report - 4th May 2003
On Saturday morning Berkhamsted Bowls Club was over-run by members of the public. Thankfully this was all part of a plan to attract more members to join this friendly / well managed club. Many club members were on hand to introduce the visitors to the game of bowls, and quite a few people were so impressed that they decided to join the club there and then. Fortunately there are still a few vacancies, and anybody wishing to join the club should contact Beryl Parsons on 01442 258765.
In the afternoon Berko visited near neighbours Potten End for a 6 rink friendly encounter with two rinks of ladies and four rinks of men. Both clubs managed to win on three rinks in this very friendly encounter, but it was Berkhamsted who narrowly came out on top with a collective total of 112 shots to 105. Top ladies rink for the visitors was Carole Dunn; Mary Cave; Janet Jackson and skip Doreen Webb who had the best result of the day winning by 33 shots to 11. The top men's rink was John Lythgoe; Frank Dellamuro; Alan Medland and skip Ken Maynard who won by 22 shots to 16.
On Sunday Berko visited the new facilities at de Havilland and found the conditions very challenging and the home side in very determined mood. Top Berkhamsted rink was Jackie Cormack; Jane Low; Beryl Parsons and skip Anne Furlong who won 22 shots to 16, but overall the visitors went down by 99 shots to 66.
